Top 5 gifts for sewists | Cepheid Studio gift guide

Welcome to the latest instalment of my really useful, low-impact gift guides! This week I’m taking you on a tour of some awesome gift ideas for sewists. Giving presents is really fun, but it’s more important than ever that we make sure that we’re giving people gifts that they’d really love to receive, and won’t end up going straight to landfill. Let’s try to change the meaning of giving - some of the best gifts I’ve ever received have been non-traditional ones, but they’ve been absolutely perfect for me. I try to do the same when choosing gifts for other people, but it can be hard to know what to choose. That’s why I’ve launched this blog series, brimming with great ideas for great folks. Let’s go!

Sewing thread has been around for thousands of years in one form or another, so I thought it was high time to immortalise humanity's love for thread in a pair of socks. I've based the design of the threads on my all-time favourite type of spool: full ones! These socks feature the artistic equivalent of over 13,000m of white, yellow, green and blue thread on a purple background, all hand drawn by me and transformed into over 60,000 stitches' worth of sock art.

I designed these luxury socks in my Parisian studio, and they are manufactured by a small independent company in the UK. Their high cotton content means that they’re super soft and of the highest quality. The toe is seamlessly joined and the cuff features a wide, soft rib to keep you comfortable all day long.

This will be no surprise: I love sewing! I couldn't live without my trusty dressmaking scissors, so I've immortalised them in this awesome laser cut wooden necklace. They'll make the perfect treat for anyone who LOVES scissors!

As a seamstress, I find myself reaching for the seam ripper more often than I'd like to admit...so I've immortalised it in this awesome laser cut wooden brooch. Here's to the unsung hero of every sewing box!

Did you know that the last remaining ‘measured metre’ can be found right here in Paris? It’s embedded into a stone wall so people could come and use it as a template to make their own measuring sticks in days gone by. It was the pre-cursor to the rulers and tape measures we use today.

I designed these ruler hair slides with precision in mind; you can choose either the metric or imperial version, and you can use them to measure things down to millimetre precision (or 1/16” precision if you go for the imperial version!).

If you love sewing you'll know how important it is to have a good sharp pair of scissors in your hands...and a good cosy pair of scissors socks on your feet! These socks feature a fleet (a snip? a chop?) of 20 pairs of scissors, all hand drawn by me and transformed into over 60,000 stitches' worth of sock art.
