Un Séjour à Paris - Annah Legg guest post

Welcome to my Paris blog series, designed to help you plan the ultimate short getaway to Paris! Whether it was a flying visit on a school trip or a romantic mini-break, most people who visit Paris are here for only a short time. I want to find out what they loved, where they visited, and what they'd do differently. It'll give future travellers the perfect snapshot of a jaunt to Paris, warts-and-all!

Tell me a few details about your trip to Paris...

I've been to Paris twice - the first time was in March 2014 for our 4th Anniversary, and the second was a surprise trip for my partners 30th Birthday in October 2017.

Which arrondissement did you stay in?

Monmatre. We visited on our last day in Paris in 2014 and had an amazing day before getting the Eurostar. It feels so welcoming, and the Sacre Coeur is one of my favourite buildings ever. When I was booking our second trip, I managed to book us an apartment in the square we we lunch in that first trip. It was perfect!

Where's your favourite place to eat in Paris?

We discovered two lovely restaurants in Monmatre - Le Jardin D'en Face and Le Potager, which are sister restaurants. The tartiflette was amazing.

Where was your favourite place in Paris?

I'm not sure I could narrow it down to one. Shakespeare and Co is an amazing bookshop that felt like the most romantic place in the world. The left bank is just a gorgeous place to wander. The Musee d'Orsay was fantastic, too, with an amazing view of the Sacre Coeur from the clock. I loved the greenhouses in the Jardin des Plantes.

What was your most-used French phrase while you were there?

Un verre de vin, s'il vous plaît!

What are your top tips for a first-time visitor to Paris?

Allow yourself time to wander!

Is there anything you wish you'd done differently?

Moved there rather than visited...

What surprised you most about Paris?

How at home I felt!

Any other awesome things to add?

Have a lovely friend in Paris who can show you the best patisseries, and make you coffee on their balcony ;)*

*Full disclosure: this is totally my (Becky's) balcony, Annah is being super flattering, ha!
